Strategy as a capability

Strategy builds the bridge between today and tomorrow.

Together with your leadership team, we develop the strategy, translate it into the capabilities you need to carry it out and steer implementation in BRIDGE ONE. Along the way, we keep reviewing the strategy in step with the BRIDGE Strategy Cycle.

A strategy has to make sure a company stays viable over the long term. That is why we see strategy as a capability, not as a project every few years. Your company sees early what is changing, decides what to focus on and aligns people and resources accordingly.

Structure and content from “Strategie – Masterfiles” (slides 1, 4, 8, 9, 12–15), shortened and related to the capability anchor.

The BRIDGE Strategy Cycle

Strategy is a cycle.

The environment, society, the economy and technology keep changing the picture. So at fixed intervals, you learn from the results, check which potential and capabilities still hold up and steer the transformation. That way, you strengthen the existing business and build new business.

BRIDGE Strategy Cycle Infinity loop. On the left, use existing potential: grow and scale, improve. On the right, open up new potential: experiment, validate and shape. In the middle, learn and transform: check what holds up and rebuild capabilities. The environment, society, the economy and technology act on the cycle from outside. • Exploit

    Existing business

You use the potential you already have and get more out of it. You strengthen your market position, increase customer value and raise productivity.

  • Reflect & Adapt

    Learn and transform

This is the path between the two sides. You learn from the results, lead the change and shift resources. You build up new capabilities and rebuild existing ones.

  • Explore

    New business

You explore and develop new potential in business models, products, services and technologies.

  • The challenges

    Four questions every
    strategy has to answer.

  • How does the strategy process stay flexible?

You need a process that makes the company fit for the future, keeps it able to change and repeats on a fixed schedule.

  • How do you create a shared understanding?

It comes down to a shared understanding of what the company is there for and what long-term goals it pursues. That gives you a direction that holds even in a crisis.

  • How does the strategy reach the business units?

You break the strategy down consistently into business unit and functional strategies and keep the levels aligned as you go.

  • How is it implemented and adjusted?

You follow through on implementation, review regularly and adjust where needed.

  • The BRIDGE Strategy Program

    Six phases from starting point
    to implementation.

Each phase produces clear results. We use a Capability Map to record which core competencies you will need in the future, and you keep working with it in BRIDGE ONE.

  • Starting point

    Clarity about today’s business

We clarify the logic your business runs on today, which core competencies you have and where you stand on customer value. We also look at key figures such as market position, productivity, innovation and how attractive you are as an employer.

  • Environment

How the market and environment are changing

We examine the trends emerging in markets, among customers, in technology and in society. We work through scenarios for critical developments and look for blind spots and alternative business models.

  • Picture of the future

    Opportunities and challenges

We sketch an attractive picture of the future and decide which strategic questions take priority. It ends with a shared commitment to vision, mission and leadership.

  • Business logic

    The future business logic

We describe what value you will offer your customers in the future and what will drive your growth. In a Capability Map, we record which core competencies you will need for this. Carried forward in BRIDGE ONE

  • Direction

    Strategic focus

We evaluate the options and set priorities. From there, we formulate the strategic thrusts with their goals, resources and activities and draw up the business plan.

  • Transformation

    Lead the implementation

You launch the change projects, plan the resources, create learning wins and track the results. We support your teams and leaders throughout.

  • How we lead the transformation with you

    Six fields

    Where strategy is decided.

You set your goals in six fields. In BRIDGE ONE, these fields become the perspectives of your Target House, for the company and for its people.

  • Market position

You strengthen your market position and the potential of your existing business and give your customers as much value as possible.

  • Innovation

New business models, products, services and technologies open up new potential for success.

  • People

You develop the competencies you need, stay attractive to key people and make sure the company is able to change.

  • Profitability

You secure your profitability so the company can keep developing under its own steam.

  • Productivity

You use your resources effectively by automating and digitizing key activities.

  • Sustainability

You commit to environmentally sustainable solutions and transparent governance, and you create benefits for society.

  • Working together

    From the workshop
    to ongoing steering.

Together with your leadership team, we develop a flexible strategy process and make it part of how you work. With strategic controlling in BRIDGE ONE, you see early on where things are drifting off course and can get back on track.

  • Capability Workshop · two to three days

With your leadership team, you decide which capabilities give you an edge and clarify which people, data and tools they require. This is often the start of the Capability Map.

  • Capability Map · three to four weeks

Based on your strategic thrusts, we determine which capabilities you need, assess their current and target maturity and set priorities.

  • Capability Development · eight to twelve weeks

In addition to the Capability Map, we develop a Capability Canvas with annual goals, AI use cases for each capability and a roadmap. We also work out which tasks people take on and which ones AI handles.

  • Ongoing steering · every quarter

Strategic controlling and capability reviews run in BRIDGE ONE. There, you update maturity levels, spot deviations and adjust initiatives.

  • Dynamic capability · where to start

    The strategy reaches day-to-day work.

Capability that growsTranslate strategy into capabilities and steer them.

    Starting point

The strategy is in place. On its way into the business units it loses focus, and progress is reported in slides that are already out of date by the time of the meeting.

Formats and durations from the “Capability Development” proposal (March 2026), Capability Workshop as on bridge-mt.com/transformation. Until 21 Oct, the card was an entry point on entry-points.html. Prices on the website: decision pending (README, item 10).
